Dr Boulad received his medical degree from the Université Libre de Bruxelles in Belgium. He completed a residency in Pediatrics at the New York Medical College, and a fellowship in Pediatric Hematology Oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering and Weill Cornell Medical College, in New York. Dr Boulad joined the staff at Memorial Sloan Kettering and Weill Cornell Medical College after his fellowship. He is an attending physician and member of the Pediatric Blood and Marrow Transplant Program at Sloan Kettering, and a Professor in Clinical Pediatrics at Weill Cornell. Dr Boulad is also the Medical Director of the Pediatric Day Hospital at Sloan Kettering.

Dr Boulad heads the Pediatric Non Malignant Hematologic Disorders program. His work comprises the management and stem cell transplantation of patients with inherited and acquired Bone Marrow Failure syndromes. His works also centers on allogeneic stem cell transplantation for haemoglobinopathies, and most recently, autologous gene transfer for haemoglobinopathies.
